This spirited community competition brings together nearly 50 local teams of 3 persons each, all competing for the prized Trivia Championship at the Tower Theatre. The highly anticipated annual community event pits friends, business competitors, colleagues and rivals against one another, all vying for the rotating Trivia Cup Trophy or hoping to win the best team name competition (costumes can help!)!Last year's winning team, "The World Class Teachers" from Summit High School will be back again to defend their title against all challengers! The most creative teams with witty names and corresponding costumes will hope to top last year's team name winner - "The Real Housewives of G5" (sponsored by G5 Marketing). Are the boys from Mt. Bachelor actually the "real husbands of the G5 housewives" as they claim? You'll just have to attend to find out!

Our annual goal is to break the $40,000 mark with help from sponsors and event attendees like you! Please help us achieve our goal by choosing one of the available support options:

About the Bee

The Trivia Bee is is The Education Foundation's signature fundraising event to benefit local children, teachers and innovative educational programs in our public schools. Held each February, this exciting, and often unpredictable, friendly competition is one of the best community events of the year! All funds raised go to support the Foundation's mission, with a significant portion of the funds distributed through our Classroom Grants Program.

To become a 2012 Bee supporter, complete the reservation form in the information packet or contact our office at 541-322-5493 for more information.

How the Trivia Bee Works:

  • 3-person trivia teams (adults only, this is a 21 and over event) compete against five to six other teams in their preliminary round to answer trivia questions from these categories: arts and entertainment, current events, history, local people/places/events, nature and science, and sports.
  • Each question is read by the announcer (all teams in each round answer the same questions). Then, teams are given limited time to confer with their team members and write their final answers on an erasable white board. When time is up, a buzzer sounds and all teams hold up their white boards to display their answers to the audience and panel of 3 judges.
  • Questions may be multiple choice, free response, or true/false. Audio or viual cues may be added to questions on occasion.
  • The team which answered the most questions correctly in their round advances to the Championship Round to compete for the Trivia Bee Cup. (In case of a tie, there is an exciting sudden-death play-off between tied teams.)
  • There are typically five to seven teams per round, six to seven qualifying rounds, and then one championship round including six to seven teams (one team from each preliminary round).
  • The "best team name" competition is voted on by the audience, and if you want to dress up to enhance your team name, it could really help your cause! The reward for the best team name, along with a year of notoriety, is a fun goody bag of interesting prizes for each team member (prizes may vary).
  • Back again by popular demand, each team is able to purchase a mulligan by donating $50 to the Foundation. A mulligan can be used once during their round as a "freebie". A mulligan can be purchased at any time prior to or during your round (at the door upon check in is a popular choice, although some sponsors prefer to include the mulligan purchase amount with their registration payment). The mulligan must be used in lieu of an answer after the question is read but before an answer is given. A mulligan cannot be purchased after an answer was given to erase a wrong answer. Mulligans cannot be used in the championship round. Tie-breaker questions cannot be decided with a mulligan.

REMEMBER - the main idea of the Trivia Bee is to HAVE FUN while you help support local public education and to network with other community leaders and businesses.

Congratulations to last year's winners:

  • 2011 WINNING TEAM: Summit High Schools "World Class Teachers"
  • 2011 RUNNER UP:
  • 2010 BEST TEAM NAME: The Real Housewives of G5" (G5 Marketing)
