Early Literacy Program

Early Literacy Program

The Education Foundation is partnering with the District and a local group of concerned citizens to support the Bend-La Pine Early Literacy Program. The Education Foundation will serve as the 501(c)(3) fiscal sponsor of this vital education program, which helps our youngest students learn to read. This important program is raising funds to support local coordinators at elementary schools who will organize volunteers to read one-on-one to young students (K-3) who require literacy support. We believe the coordinators are instrumental to the success of this program, which has been proven to improve long lasting reading skills among our children. This local community-based program will be working in concert with, and serve as an enhancement to, an existing statewide literacy program which is now unable to support the funding of local coordinators in the coming year. This valuable program has gained the support and investment from all concerned stakeholders, including the school district, the statewide literacy program, the volunteers reading to the children, and a group of concerned citizens involved with a local chapter supporting the Early Literacy Program. The local chapter will partner with the district to help raise funds locally to support the coordinators. The Early Literacy Program coordinator project will be funded through grants, private donors and community fundraisers as well as support from our district who will operate the program in their facilities and help assure the coordinators can complete their contracts for the coming year.
